Brick Expo 2012

Brick Expo was a truly enormous event this year with tickets selling out and over 10,000 people coming to see the exhibition. More than 60 exhibitors came from all over Australia to construct and display countless, amazing models. A stand out model included Australia’s tallest Lego structure, created by Australia’s only certified LEGO professional Ryan McNaught. The Saturn V is a rocket that stands 5.76m tall and is built with approximately 120,000 LEGO bricks!

Other displays included static and moving creations such as a fully functioning roller coaster, a large ship, a Jurassic Park themed display, Bumblebee from Transformers, the Taj Mahal, the Arc deTriomphe, a bustling city scene complete with a street parade, a number of trains and an under the sea themed merry go round,  just to name a few.

On Friday 14 September, members of the Canberra LEGO Users Group (CLUG) came to the Canberra Hospital to present a cheque for an astounding $40,000.

“On behalf of our corporate supporters, the Hellenic Club and the 10,000 attendees of Brick Expo we are very pleased and proud to be able donate a cheque for $40,000 to Paediatrics at the Canberra Hospital,” said David Boddy, President of CLUG.

The cheque was proudly accepted by Mr Ian Thompson, Deputy Director-General of the Canberra Hospital & Health Services. “This event not only showcases great skill and passion, but it also demonstrates the generosity of community groups such as the members of CLUG, that are eager to make a difference to the experience children and their families have whilst in hospital.

We plan to use the funds raised from this year’s Brick Expo to purchase an ECG machine and a bladder scanner. These items are currently shared with the adult wards resulting in a delay in treatment of paediatric patients while the equipment is sourced and transferred,” he concluded.

An enormous thank you to CLUG, the generous LEGO exhibitors who came from all over Australia, to the Hellenic Club and to everyone who attended Brick Expo in support of Paediatrics at the Canberra Hospital.

We look forward to another amazing year of Brick Expo in 2013!
