Hosting an event
Hosting a fundraising event is a great way to raise funds for the Canberra Hospital Foundation and help to provide better services to those in need.
In addition to our government funding we rely on the fundraising and support of organisations, community groups and individuals like you to assist in maintaining excellence in the provision of health care.
The guidelines and registration form is designed to assist you in your planning for your fundraising events in support of Canberra Hospital Foundation and ACT Health Directorate. You can find this form in the Fundraising Toolkit which can be emailed to you upon request.
Authority to fundraise
The Australian Government has developed legislation governing the conduct of fundraising. Under the Charitable Collections Act, anyone wishing to raise money for charity must hold an authority to fundraise. So, before you start fundraising for Canberra Hospital Foundation and ACT Health we will need to authorise your fundraising activity. Anyone who wishes to fundraise for Canberra Hospital Foundation and ACT Health must register with us, no matter what the size of the event or donation.
Ideas for fundraising events
Fundraising can be a fun and rewarding experience and is only limited by your imagination! To help you with ideas, we have put together a list of popular suggestions. Be sure to put your own spin on the event and make sure it is relevant to the people that will be attending.
Morning tea - Alternatively this could be an afternoon tea, high tea or lunch with your school, workplace, sporting group or community group. Ask everyone to make a donation.
Guessing Competition - This could involve guessing how many lollies are in the jar, baby pictures or how much an item weighs. Be creative and choose something relevant to the people involved. Charge a gold donation for every guess and have a prize for the winner.
Organise a challenge for yourself or with a group - This can include participating in a walk-a-thon or marathon and asking friends and family to sponsor you for your efforts. Alternatively you could ask to be sponsored to give something up such as smoking or shopping for a month.
Host a BBQ or dinner party - Plan it around an event like New Years Eve or Valentines Day to make it extra special, or give the event a theme such as fancy dress. Collect donations through the evening and even have a raffle or auction!
Treasure Hunt - This is a great one to get the kids involved. Host it at a local park or even in the back yard and ask for a gold coin donation to participate.
Movie Night - If you love watching movies this one is fantastic! Organise a fun night in and ask for donations or alternatively have a fun night out at the cinema. Simply charge charge $20 per ticket with profits going to the Canberra Hospital Foundation.
Please feel free to contact us for advice on what fundraising activity might best suit you.
